About 12 Guitars

12 Guitars is a social enterprise formed in 2019 in Glasgow by Gerry Thorogood and Steve Plummer. Entirely staffed by volunteer guitar enthusiasts, we make guitar playing accessible to people of all ages, backgrounds and circumstances free at the point use to deliver well-being benefits. We do this by re-furbishing and re-purposing unwanted and abandoned guitars, often saving them from going to landfill and giving them a new life in the community.

We have engaged thousands of people since our formation and have donated over 250 guitars to organisations and individuals across Scotland and beyond. We deliver free open guitar groups in the community. The organisations we support include the Teenage Cancer Trust, Leverndale Hospital, The Royal Hospital for Children, The Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice, Inverclyde Faith in Throughcare, The Lodging House Mission, MusiCares Scotland and a range of schools across Scotland.
